Choose the right identification method

ANPR is effective for visitor and public parking because the number plate becomes the credential. UHF RFID is ideal for employees, residents and fleet vehicles that require fast, repeatable access. Ticketing remains useful where plates are unreliable or where a physical transaction record is required. Many sites benefit from a hybrid design: registered users enter with RFID while visitors use ANPR or a barcode ticket.

Identification accuracy depends on lane geometry, controlled lighting, camera angle and vehicle speed. Good software should flag low-confidence reads and provide a quick exception workflow instead of blocking the entire lane.

Turn occupancy into guidance

Bay sensors detect whether individual spaces are free. Local LED indicators give drivers immediate visual guidance, while zone controllers aggregate availability for floor and entrance displays. The result is less circling, reduced congestion and a clearer view of usable capacity.

A resilient guidance system continues to maintain local counts when the wider network is temporarily unavailable. When connectivity returns, the central platform should reconcile events and restore a complete occupancy record.

Connect payment and exit

For public parking, payment can happen at a kiosk, mobile page or exit lane. Cashless pre-payment reduces dwell time at the barrier. At exit, the system verifies the plate or ticket, checks payment status and opens the barrier automatically. A manual override remains available for disputed transactions and unreadable plates.

Every exception should be auditable. Operator actions, tariff changes, lost-ticket decisions and manual openings belong in the same reporting system as normal entries and exits.

Measure outcomes, not only equipment

Track average entry time, exit time, lane queue length, occupancy by zone, payment exceptions and system availability. These indicators reveal whether the site is becoming easier to use and more efficient to operate.
